About Maitreya
Maitreya is a Clifden, Ireland-based dancer, installation artist, photographer, & stylist/style-consultant.
She gathers style inspiration from life’s intricacies & translates them into wearable creations. Her movement/dance, visual art, & collaboration experience are focused significantly around site-specific work, & the creation of art as ritual - a practice she has been doing her whole life, & has developed greatly over the past few years.
Last summer she concluded ‘Not An Island’, a dance/installation piece for the FIGMENT NYC 2012 arts festival, & excerpts of a new piece, ‘The State of Things So Held’, which was shown in July, 2012, to benefit Maitreya’s postgraduate study at the University of Limerick (UL) in the West of Ireland.
A serious illness in Autumn, 2012, led Maitreya to temporarily withdraw from UL, moving to the magic of Clifden, Co. Galway, on a Health Leave of Absence, to heal among the mountains, bay breezes, & magical energy of Connemara.
Currently she is working on a collaborative interdisciplinary/multi-media piece (part of Belfast’s Household Festival in August, 2013).
She is interested in improvisation, interdisciplinary arts, sacred style, social (& environmental) justice, & possible collaborations - please be in touch, if you’re interested in the same.
