A Thousand Picnics - Cold Picnic Designers Phoebe Sung & Peter Buer, and their new shop!
O, MY MY!
Life and business partners Phoebe Sung & Peter Buer, the designers behind the Of a Kind exclusive RHINO PENDANT, have recently opened a shop in South Williamsburg!

Here’s an awesome photo..

..that inspired the use of shingles inside the W’burg store!
Before anything, Phoebe started by creating “mood boards” - places that could embody the feelings the couple wanted to manifest in their shop.

Here’s one image of the woodsy-yet-retro feel they want to invoke..

And here it is totally coming to life in their crunchy-yet-refined ensembles against exposed brick.
Phoebe says,
“All of us are inspired by seventies Woodstock houses. We didn’t want it to be too hippie but to have a handmade, cabin feel. We wanted a slight California feel, too. We were looking at all these pictures of Joan Didion. You could tell she was chic, but she wore flowy dresses, went barefoot, and had a house with exposed brick walls. Not everyone was a hippie in the seventies, but they all kind of looked like it.”

Another mood board photo - here, drying herbs and flowers create a feeling..

..and its manifestation in A Thousand Picnics!
The couple says,
“It’s nice to be able to experiment with things—put them in the shop as a collection and see how people like them. We want everything to sell, but there are some things that can just be editorial or for character. It’s about an atmosphere, and we’ve gotten such a nice response.”
Go visit this week!

SELTZA!
Have you seen the art of my lovely friend, Ms. Anna Seidman (aka annaoner)? The portraits of Manhattan-bred, Brooklyn-based Seidman come alive on her Tumblr page, and are truly fragments of an era gone by. Incredibly detailed, while swathed in gentle color, Anna’s seltzer bottles are a perfect for any occasion - buy them as-is, or let her personalize them for you!
Above, is “an ode to sibling unity,” Seidman says, and each piece measures 5 x 7 inches.
Contact her at annaoner@gmail.com for commissions and pricing.
P.S. - Her jewellery pieces are at least as fabulous!
Designer Consignment, Isabel Borgatta’s Sculpture, and Why I Haven’t Posted in the Last Few Days

So, things have been super hectic here in Mai Mai Land (say, “My My”) of late - sorry for the lack of posts in the last few days! I currently work at Second Time Around, an awesome designer consignment shop in Nolita (just East of SoHo, in Manhattan), and I adore it, but it’s just not pulling its financial weight. And, thus, the search for a supplemental second job. I’ve been interviewing at Free People (just had my 2nd - kind of like a call-back, for all of you dancers or actors out there!), which was a follow-up to my returning to Anthropologie to see if they were hiring (I used to work at their lovely SoHo store on West Broadway a few years ago). Things have been somewhat drawn-out with the interviewing process, but I’ve been patient, because the retail sales position could incorporate some aspects of merchandising/visuals (yippee!).
Meanwhile, the wonderful and brilliantly talented sculptor, Isabel Borgatta, for whom I’ve been doing some freelance personal assistant work, is having an art opening at the Century (Club/Association) in early March and today I had to rush off to try and find Ms. Borgatta a suitable scarf for the occasion. So far, no luck.. I need something with blues or purples or rosey deep pinks, and it must be sheer - it is merely a decoration for the black velvets the sculptor will be wearing. So specific, and I enjoy the challenge - it is such fun searching for clothing that will make others shine! I am busy, but I’m definitely having fun : )
While all of this chaos ensues, I shall try to keep up-to-date with me wee blog, but if I run amok, do pester me through the ever-so-useful “Qs & As” section (and won’t you please include your email so I might respond?).
Happy almost-weekend to you all!
CHLOÉ
An EVER-so-useful Youtube channel I hunted down when in search of the proper pronunciation of Chloé (yes, its ending does rhyme with “today,” thanks to that French accent over the “e”).
Thought I should be as sufficiently in-the-know and pretentious as possible, while I’m selling fabulous designer pieces on consignment at an awesome Nolita store : )
